WANT TO BE THE CHANGE? GO HOME AND LOVE YOUR FAMILY.
Do you have a favorite quote? My favorite quote since middle school has been, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” by Gandhi. I spent a few years living my life wanting to help change the world. Then, post college I read a quote that said, “If you want to be the change, go home and love your family.” I instantly thought, “Well I already do that.” And to my surprise, the deeper I thought about it, I realized I fully wasn’t. I wasn’t physically there for them, I wasn’t checking in on them as much as I should, often times I was trying to escape my home life, and realistically I would tell them I loved them and to me that was enough.
“If you want to be the change, go home and love your family.” – Mother Teresa
I then realized…
You want to be the change? Go home and love your family. Think about it, if everyone went and loved their families, everyone would feel loved and show up better versions of themselves. The issue is that a lot of the root of our problems stem from feeling abandoned, not feeling good enough, or not feeling worthy. More than often, an authority figure or person came into our life and planted that feeling in our head. As human we accepted it as truth and then that became the “lie” we be“LIE”ve.
Then, we enter unhealthy relationships as a result of this because that’s the form of love we know. We take abuse, emotional unavailability, toxic patterns, and empty words because at some point in our life we received that love. The beautiful thing is that we can CHANGE it! We can be the change. We can change the patterns. We can change the cycle. We can change our dynamic. We can change the family dynamic.
When you heal yourself, you heal your family. Take the time today to tell a family member, “I love you” and show them. BE THE CHANGE!
